Overview
If Bollywood ever needed a backdrop for serenity, romance, and raw nature, Meghalaya would be the set! From seeking divine blessings at the ancient Kamakhya Temple to gliding on the glassy waters of Dawki, this journey is a perfect blend of spirituality, music, and adventure. Shillong’s café vibes, Cherrapunjee’s dramatic waterfalls, root bridges that defy time, and Mawlynnong’s picture-perfect cleanliness – it’s a soulful ride into India’s “Scotland of the East.” Add to that piping hot chai, momos, Khasi music, and the spice of local culture – and you’ve got a blockbuster holiday!
Your story begins in Guwahati where you pay homage at the sacred Kamakhya Temple, soaking in centuries of faith and devotion. With blessings to guide your journey, drive through winding hill roads towards Shillong – fondly known as the “Scotland of the East.” As dusk falls, the heart of Shillong – Police Bazaar – comes alive with street food aromas, sizzling momos, and street musicians setting the evening to Khasi tunes.
Wake up in Shillong and dive into its charm – stroll around the romantic Ward’s Lake, admire the heritage at Don Bosco Museum, and whisper a prayer inside the grand Cathedral. As the sun sets, the city reveals its modern soul: cafés with live Khasi music, steaming cups of chai, and soulful conversations. Shillong is where tradition meets today’s rhythm.
A cinematic drive takes you to Cherrapunjee – a land where clouds float low and waterfalls rule the skies. Feel the thrill of Nohkalikai Falls plunging into emerald pools, step into the mysterious Mawsmai Caves, and watch the Seven Sisters Falls paint the cliffs. Lunch is no less dramatic – spicy Khasi thalis that warm you as much as the view outside.
This day is dedicated to Meghalaya’s greatest marvel – the Living Root Bridges. Trek into lush valleys and forests to witness how local tribes shaped roots over centuries into natural, living pathways. Walking on them is like stepping into a fairy tale – where humans and nature co-authored the story.
Experience India’s cleanest village – Mawlynnong, where bamboo huts, cobbled pathways, and flower-laden gardens look straight out of a dream. From there, head to Dawki, where the Umngot River flows so clear you can see the riverbed even as your boat glides like it’s floating in the sky. Return to Shillong with memories soaked in magic.
Bid farewell to the highlands as you descend to Guwahati. En route, shop for Assam’s aromatic tea – the perfect souvenir of your Northeastern journey. Carry back not just tea but stories, songs, and the smiles of the hills.
